The old version of the humorist Douglas Kenny tells the story of how he and Henry Byrd transferred their success on their campus, Harvard Lampoon magazine, to the commercial magazine National Lampoon. Based on their checkered lives and aggressive bizarre sense of humor, the couple created a publication that would redefine the American comedy with an outrageous dilettante that captured the clergy of the decade that spread to various media. Unfortunately, with all his successes, Doug Kenny, with his overhanging uncertainty, ego and irresponsible appetites, began to absorb him until he alienated everyone who had ever cared for and supported him, even when they imitated him.
